History of the Aran Sweater
The Aran sweater originated from the west of Ireland on the Aran islands to the regional versions of the sweater from Donegal.
Originally cultivation of unarable land, and use of seaweed and other natural resources, wool and natural dyes were all taken from the land to provide income, and crafts in very under-developed rural areas.
Thus the tradition of Arans began.
Most knitting patterns were never written down but handed on in families and also as a form of identification for fishermen out at sea.
We pride ourselves on our range of Genuine Aran sweaters & knits direct from Irish knitters and weavers in County Donegal, Ireland
In every stitch a story, in every line alegend.
